Pino Sallusti, bassista , compositore, arrangiatore, nasce a Roma nel 1957 Inizia a suonare jazz negli anni '70 con il chitarrista Eddy Palermo Nel 1980 si trasferisce a Genova, dove ha modo di suonare con vari musicisti della citta, tra cui Dado Moroni e Andrea Pozza In quel periodo forma il primo quintetto a suo nome, che riscuote un buon successo presso la stampa locale Nel 1983, tornato a Roma, inizia un'intensa attività concertistica, suonando con quasi tutti i musicisti dell'area romana, tra cui il compianto Massimo Urbani. Inoltre, come session-man, ha modo di accompagnare solisti come Gary Bartz, Jimmy Owens, Ernie Wilkins, Harry "Sweets" Edison, George Garzone, Bobby Watson, Bruce Forman, George Coleman, Steve Grossman, Ellen Christie, Maurizio Giammarco, Franco D'Andrea e molti altri Effettua anche alcuni concerti con il trombettista Flavio Boltro e con gli "Area 2" di Giulio Capiozzo Ha fatto parte a Genova della big band di Cesare Marchini e della 010 Ensemble Orchestra, e a Roma dell'orchestra di Al Corvini e della big band "Federico II di Svevia" diretta da Marco Tiso ed Enrico Pieranunzi |
Ha partecipato a varie trasmissioni radiofoniche e televisive e a vari jazz festivals tra cui quelli di Villa Imperiale a Genova, Jazz & Image a Roma, Umbria Jazz, Eurofestival di Ivrea, Atina Jazz, Eddie Lang festival di Monteroduni, Aprilia Jazz Nel 1989 dopo alcuni tours con Gary Bartz e Jimmy Owens, decide di registrare con loro il primo CD a suo nome, "Night of dreams", pubblicato nell'estate 1994, ricevendo ampi consensi da parte della critica Sempre nel 1989 incide il CD "Remembering Gil" con il chitarrista Sergio Coppotelli Nel 1991 entra a far parte del gruppo Silent Circus, con il quale effettua la registrazione del CD "Ipotetico", in cui figura come ospite il tenor sassofonista George Garzone. |
Nel 1993 incide un'altro CD, "Blues in the sky", con il chitarrista Sergio Coppotelli e nello stesso anno fonda il Pino Sallusti Quintet, più tardi ampliato a settetto Nel 1994 entra a far parte del gruppo Worldream, con il quale incide il CD "Handprints" Nel 1996 effettua la registrazione del suo secondo CD come leader, "Colors", pubblicato dall'etichetta tedesca YVP l'anno successivo, anche questo premiato da ottime recensioni da parte della critica Nel 1999 incide CD "Così è se..." con il chitarrista Galliano Prosperi e il CD "Northern light" con il cantante Paul Linge Come insegnante, ha tenuto il corso di contrabbasso presso la scuola "Spazio musica" di Morlupo (Roma) dal 1995 al 1996. |
